🏳️‍🌈 A Proud History in Grand Rapids

The first Grand Rapids Pride Festival was held in 1988 at what is now known as Rosa Parks Circle. Spearheaded by local LGBTQIA+ activists inspired by the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, the festival began as a rally for visibility and equality.

Despite pushback from city officials at the time, the inaugural event was a success—and each year since, it’s grown louder, prouder, and more vibrant. Today, it’s one of the largest Pride festivals in Michigan, drawing tens of thousands of attendees from across the Midwest 🌍.
